My name is Valerie Lunt and I grew up in Southern California, where the temperate weather allowed us to garden year round. One of my chores was to help tend the vegetable garden, which instilled in me the love of gardening. My father even gave me an Orange Tree which he called The Valerie Valencia.
In 1998 I married Scott Lunt and in 2000 I graduated from Weber State in Elementary Education. I substitute taught and worked at an after-school program for children until my daughter was born in 2001. We moved back home, for my husband, to San Antonio in 2002 so he could join The Garden Center Family and we have added three more boys to our family.
With my love of Gardening and my love of teaching it was only natural that “Little Sprouts” was born. My inspiration comes from my mother who did many of these projects with my siblings and I when we were kids. I absolutely love to watch children learn while doing hands on activities, and yes, get a little dirty.
Little Sprout classes are designed for children of all ages to come and learn about gardening and have enjoyable hands on experiences. Our classes are free, though once in awhile we ask you to bring some of the materials. Please have your children dressed ready to get dirty and plan on staying with them in the class unless they are old enough to do the projects alone. But please do not leave the Garden Center premises. The materials for our classes will be handed out on a first come first serve basis, however we plan for large groups of children and do not anticipate turning anyone away. Our address is 10684 Bandera Rd. It is located one mile inside loop 1604 on the corner of New Prue and Bandera just behind the Walgreens (map). So tell your friends and come and grow with The Garden Center in our Little Sprouts Classes.

On Wednesday March 17th at 11:00 we will be planting fig ivy and shaping a wire for you fig ivy to grow around. It is called a topiary. Come and learn more about it and be sure to either bring a 6-inch pot or buy one at The Garden center. The soil, ivy, and wire will be provided.
